Set to take place at the Gold Coast Exhibition Centre, the event is an opportunity for the country's top dancers and cheerleaders to compete against one another in nine categories.

Among the prizes up for grabs are the best cheer, group stunt, hip-hop routine, jazz dance and modern or lyrical piece.

Awards are also on the line for the best use of pom poms, while mothers and fathers will have the chance to battle it out in the parents' cheer competition.

However, the organisers insisted the true purpose of the championships is to have fun.

"The real memories are created when getting ready with your team-mates backstage, meeting other athletes and letting your hair down after the competition," they explained.

Registration for the event costs between AU$65 and AU$95, with every entrant receiving a participation medal and the winners being given special grand champion jackets.

Proceedings are scheduled to take place on Friday July 8th and Saturday July 9th, running from 09:00 to 20:00 local time on each day.
