The course measures 16km (10 miles) long, and each year some 20,000 people enter. The course record for men is held by Morocco's Mohamed El Hachimi, who completed the distance in an incredible 46 minutes 4 seconds in 2009. The women's record was achieved by Kenyan Olympian Isabella Ochichi in 2002, in a time of 53 minutes 52 seconds.
